I encountered my first shoe sponge among the complimentary toiletries in my hotel room a few years ago. Where had they been hiding all my life?
No more messy paste and liquid polishes for me. A quick swipe with a shoe sponge and I'm good to go, literally. No need to let shoes dry or to buff. No dirty hands (the container lid is also the handle of the sponge). No need to even remove my shoes to polish them.
I don't know what's in the sponge, but it works -- which is great. (Similar to my approach to cars.) I use it for black leather boots, but according to the package, it works on any color leather, including purses. Earlier this week, I even removed a scuff mark from a leather jacket.
The shoe sponge is an inexpensive solution to a dreaded chore, now virtually eliminated. I keep one handy in the car and in my desk at work.

I have no idea whether the Instant Shine Sponge I purchased at Foot Locker (and that has a Foot Locker label) is the same as the Penguin product (although the shape of the container and thename makes me suspicious that it is a private label version). Let me say, however, that the Foot Locker Instant Shine Sponge is truly amazing. A wipe over a scuffed leather shoe cleans and restores the polish and shine. The amazing part is that the sponge appears to have no polish in it, so it isn't messy at all. It looks like an ordinary dry sponge, but a wipe over scuffed leather removes the scuffs and adds polish. Before discovering the Instant Shine at a Foot Locker, I actually purchased a replacement pair of shoes, which I have never worn because my old pair has been restored nearly to like-new condition.

These are very handy to carry along when traveling and also at home. There is no mess or fuss just rub the foam pad on your shoes and with it you do not touch any polish so no messy hands.

This product is a little pricey but it's really worth it. Makes your shoes and boots look great! The best sponge I've ever used.
