Great way to cover bright white edges on shoes May 22, 2011

"SuperDuper"
After buying a pair of sneakers with about 10 miles of glaring white sole edging (Nike Frees - great concept, horrible soles!), I needed a way to get the edges to look less dorky. I tried wide-nibbed Sharpie pens, which worked for awhile but rubbed off awfully quickly, and left streaks from application. I tried to find tips online for dying sneakers and any other search term I could think of, without any luck. Fortunately, a former soldier gave me the tip to look for "sole edge" polish (apparently it's vital for the old-school shiny black boots), and thank heavens he did, since it was just the right thing.
So it works just like bottled shoe polish: spread paper below, press the tip, dab it on the shoe using the attached sponge, let it dry. Unlike polish I have used, it goes on awfully awfully clumpy from the little air bubbles, but that's ok. When it dries, it somehow distributes the polish properly (for the most part). Any remaining clumping can be fixed with a second application. You end up with not only full coverage, but it's also shiny like patent leather. Which makes it look very professional and not like some kind of home job.
The one thing is that it does wear off in spots of high wear, especially on fairly impermeable foam like sneakers' soles. My shoes will get a little patch of white on each toebox, but a quick dab with the Kiwi bottle at night takes care of it.
Very very highly recommend!
